Insight Kortrijk – A project by a student for students – Part 3
Goededag dear readers. After the first two blogs you already know a little bit about my daily life here in Kortrijk. But you might have asked yourself the most important thing for a student. What is this man doing on a weekend night? Where is he going out? Well, exactly this is the question I am going to answer in this blog.
Even though many people told me that you can’t really go out here. Well, I have been coming into my apartment at the sunrise often enough. But it’s clear that there aren’t the biggest discos here. That’s not the most important thing here. Being in good company is all you need. If you meet people from all over the world here, you can have a lot of fun with them in bars or smaller clubs. And here are some of the bars and discos in Kortrijk.
Mary’s Irish Pub
In the center of Kortrijk, you have the possibility to dive in the atmosphere of the Irish culture. Mary’s Irish pub is a place where you can sit comfortably and enjoy numerous different types of beer. There is everything from the classic Irish Guinness to many Belgian beers. And if you get hungry, they have classics like burgers, ribs or salads. But I’ll give you a tip, the fries with different toppings are unbeatable. Since in addition to drinks and good food you can also watch football or several Pub quizzes, it is now a weekly meeting place for us students.
Burgemeester Reynaertstraat
You like dancing and enjoy different types of music? Then the Burgemeester Reynaertstraat is the perfect place for you. It is a street right next to the train station and close to the city center where you find some bars and a night club. You have the perfect mix of going to a bar, for a nice beer or going to Café 56 where you can dance the whole night. Also, Café 56 has a lot of student friendly offers for drinks.
Next to the Café 56, there is a nice underground Disco called “Den Trap”. This place is for the people who like the crazy sound of hardstyle music. And sometimes there is some other music with live bands. Starting on Thursday until Saturday, this club is always filled with people. The Belgian people really like Hardstyle!
Bars around campus Vives
If you are reading this blog, you might be studying at the Howest University. But there is another campus 20 minutes away: the Vives campus. They also have some bars and clubs. When you meet some Belgian students, they will take you there for sure. And there are always many young people who want to party.
Party stronghold Ghent
So, you think that these places are not enough for you and you need bigger discos? If the answer is yes, you should definitely go to Ghent.
It is a larger student city and has numerous clubs where you can party the whole night. But be warned: You should be prepared for a long night. Because the last train to Kortrijk leaves at half past 11 and the next one doesn’t arrive until 5 a… But with a group of friends and good music, it should not be a challenge for us students.
