Hello and welcome back to Insight Kortrijk, your go-to guide for discovering the interesting life and opportunities in Kortrijk! In our first post, I gave you a little insight into the historical charm of the Broeltorens. Now, in the second part, we will have a look on the place where you will spend most your time: The University building called “The Penta”.
It is halftime now in my exchange semester and what else can I say except of “AMAZING”? Not only the Belgian lifestyle is responsible for that, also the daily time here at the university. The modern and innovative atmosphere here at the Penta motivates you to be creative and productive day by day. With different media rooms you have the perfect basic to create your content. But more of this will follow now.
A Modern Spot of Creativity
Not far away from Kortrijk’s city center is the Howest University, an innovative place for students pursuing various creative disciplines. As a student of Creative Communication, I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in an environment where imagination knows no limit. Besides a nice looking building, there are also numerous opportunities to give free rein to your creativity.
Imagine having access to multiple media rooms equipped with everything you need to bring your ideas to life. From podcast rooms, a news room, and greenscreen studios, the university offers a playground for experimentation. Need a camera, microphone, or gimbal for your next vlog? Look no further than the library, where you can borrow all the equipment necessary to capture the perfect shot.
Inspiring Subjects, Expert Lecturers
Tired of having the same lecturers again and again in your home institution? In creative communication you’ll find yourself guided by competent lecturers who are passionate about their fields. On the one hand, they generate a professional working environment. On the other hand, they are very personal and always helpful. Our curriculum is made to nurture creativity and innovation. Whether you’re diving into the art of blogging and vlogging, copywriting, or studying the specific world of advertising and marketing, all the courses will prepare you for a job in a creative branch.
Culinary Delights and Architectural Marvels
Life at Howest isn’t just about academics; it’s about embracing every aspect of student life. With two vibrant cafeterias offering a diverse selection of tasty dishes, the biggest problem you will have is for what meal or snack you are going to decide.And let’s not forget about the university’s modern architecture. It’s no wonder that some student say it looks a bit like Hogwarts!

Don’t miss the park around the campus. It is a wide space where you can sit outside or walk around during your breaks. Some students use it to study there. But prepare a jacke because the Belgian weather makes the outdoor life a little bit uncomfortable.
